HPV kit with expanded DNA extraction steps
HPV kit
Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women worldwide. However it can nearly always be cured if detected at an early stage. In most cases cervical carcinoma is preceded by a human papilloma virus (HPV) infection; in 70% of all cases the cancer is caused by the so-called high-risk HPV types 16 and 18. An estimation of the actual cancer risk involves a test for HPV, followed by the exact determination of the HPV type in the case of a positive finding..
The PapilloCheck test from Greiner was first marketed in 2007 as a test for the genotyping of HP viruses. Several steps are required from sampling to the final test result, of which the DNA extraction step is vital to ensure the quality of the subsequent analysis. The support product portfolio for PapilloCheck has thus been expanded to include two DNA extraction kits suitable for isolating human and viral DNA. The kits were especially developed for extraction of the DNA from uterine cervical smears for subsequent analysis with PapilloCheck. Depending on the sample frequency and volume, kits for two different extraction processing methods are available, either for single-column processing using centrifugation or eight column processing with the application of a vacuum system. The highly sensitive silica membrane technology used in the extraction process means that maximum levels of DNA yield and purity can be achieved. Used together with the PapilloCheck collection kit, the newly developed extraction kits provide maximum levels of certainty and accuracy.
