Mouse and dog NGAL ELISA kits
ELISA kits
Two ELISA kits are now available for the determination in mice and dogs of the acute kidney injury marker neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL). This molecule is the earliest biomarker for acute kidney injury (AKI) in humans and has also shown good promise for use in experimental rodent models. NGAL determination allows kidney injury to be detected almost as soon as it occurs and not just at the later stage when the consequences of damage have set in with impaired kidney function or actual failure. In addition to measurement in rats, determination of NGAL in mice and dogs could prove to be of considerable value in the preclinical evaluation of new pharmacological products, since it is much cheaper and easier to assay NGAL than to carry out the typical microscopic examination of the kidney itself.
The new mouse and dog NGAL tests can be used early in the development of new treatments for kidney damage, to detect nephrotoxic side effects of new drugs, and for basic scientific research on kidney injury and kidney diseases.
