Surfactant Protein A ELISA
Surfactant Protein A ELISA
Surfactant associated protein-A (SP-A) belongs to the family of innate host defence proteins termed collectins, of which SP-A is the most abundant pulmonary surfactant protein. SP-A is an important component of host defence against respiratory pathogens and allergens. Besides pulmonary host defence, SP-A is also involved in the formation of pulmonary surfactant, as it is essential for the structure of tubular myelin. An increased serum SP-A level has been recently reported as a strong and independent predictor of early mortality among patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Reduced levels of SP-A in alveolar fluid have been reported in other pulmonary diseases, e.g. acute respiratory distress syndrome. Elevated levels of SP-A in the lungs have been observed in pulmonary alveolar proteinosis. BioVendor’s ELISA kit has enhanced the company’s pulmonary infection or inflammation diagnostic test portfolio. The assay has been validated to measure SP-A in serum, citrate and heparin plasma, bronchoalveolar lavage and amniotic fluid. The 96 well-microtitre plate format allows use on standard ELISA equipment or robotic systems.
