Tryptase assay for measuring increased risk of severe allergic reactions
Tryptase assay
Mast cells are activated during an allergic reaction, releasing inflammatory mediators including tryptase. An elevated tryptase level serves as a risk marker for severe anaphylactic reaction e.g. after a bee/wasp sting or after introduction of drugs. Several hematological disorders are also characterised by elevated tryptase levels. The ImmunoCAP Tryptase test measures the total level of tryptase released by mast cells into serum. With the introduction this assay on Phadia 1000, tryptase measurements are now available on all the company’s laboratory systems including Phadia 100, Phadia 250 and Phadia 1000.
